LEMAY Robert

Robert Lemay, born in Montreal in 1960, received his doctorate in composition from the University of Montreal, and his masters in composition from the University of Laval. He also studied at the State University of New York in Buffalo where he worked with Brian Ferneyhough, Donald Erb and Louis Andriesson among others. He also studied in workshops in France with François Rossé in Bordeaux and Georges Aperghis at the ATEM in Paris. His music, with its tremendous virtuoso demands, is noteworthy for its use of stage e?ects and its utilisation of the concert space. A proli?c composer, several of his works have been performed in Canada, the USA, Europe (France, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Holland, Czech Republic and Hungary) as well as in Argentina and Japan. His works have been broadcast by Radio Canada, CBC and Radio Bavaria. Having a predilection for the saxophone, it is omnipresent in his works. Robert Lemay has written for performers including Daniel Gauthier, Jean-François Guay, Rémi Ménard, Jean-Michel Goury, Susan Fancher, Serge Bertocchi and Jean-Marie Londeix.
