18/11/2003 - Paris, Théâtre des Champs Elysées - Dame Felicity Lott, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, John Nelson (conductor)
For the 25th anniversary concert of the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, John Nelson suggested I should write a symphonic tribute, and we mischievously decided Dame Felicity Lott should sing "Happy birthday to you", accompanied by the entire orchestra.
This is a work composed for a special occasion, therefore, a special tune, a chanson-scherzo and humorous melody taken from a song cycle that does not exist, for a very great singer - Stravinsky and Berio used a similar procedure.
I have deliberately written this scherzo in a brilliant and lively style, matching the colours of my First Symphony which is still very present in my mind.
