Alfonso Alberti (piano)
In Gérard Pesson's musical oeuvre, the piano holds a central position - his numerous pianistic works convey a comprehensive notion of his style. A particularly characteristic trait in Pesson's music is a certain terseness, at times turning into dryness, irony and coldness, but also with a hint of "obstinacy": Also, many of his compositions reveal a "substratum", i.e. more music "underneath" Pesson's, creating a sort of dialogue. Another omnipresent feature are stereotypes such as Spanish formulas as a simple signal (Folies d'Espagne) or exotic scales (Autres vues de Nagasaki) - a whole series of micro-dramaturgical ideas challenging the style, or even deliberately falsifying it.
